Time Machine Analysis

Hey guys!

Today I shall be starting a new series in which I describe, analyse, and give my viewpoints on official and online Geometry Dash levels! I’m starting the official levels series at Time Machine, as the levels before this are quite easy, and have no (or not much) interesting gameplay / mechanics.

Keep in mind that any opinions expressed are mine (obviously), and are not meant to offend, argue, or otherwise cause harm to anyone 🙂 We’re all individuals here, so if you respect my opinion, I shall respect yours in return 🙂

General Thoughts

As you can see, Time Machine is the 8th official level, being rated as Harder, and is worth 8 stars. Looking back at my Level Difficulties post, I didn’t mention Time Machine, though I now think the new order of levels should be xStep, Cycles, Time Machine: the opposite of what it is today.

While Cycles does have a lot of triple spikes near the beginning, the rest of the level is easy. It is also the shortest level in the game, and doesn’t require much skill to beat. Time Machine, on the other hand, has triple spikes everywhere, and has a semi-difficult upside down / mirror transition where the voice says “This is a Time Machine”. This is not difficult now, but when I was beginning my GD career, it took me a long time to master that section.

The Coins

The coins in Time Machine are quite well placed. The first one is relatively easy to collect, however some timing skill is required

The second coin is located in a box of its own in the middle of the first area you fly through. It’s quite narrow, being one block wide, but you don’t need to straight-fly as there are invisible blocks that you can rest on.

Finally, the third coin is in a slightly more obscure place. When attempting to get it, do not jump on the last block, instead, let your icon fall upwards, and it will fall into a gravity switch. Quickly tap twice as there are two pink jump orbs, which are very easy to miss.

Gameplay

Time Machine has lots and lots of triple spikes. You’ll probably crash many times on them if you’re not very experienced, like I was when I first tried it… Don’t give up though! You’ll improve with practice 🙂

The mirror mode is introduced in this level, and it’s quite easy to master. In addition to the transition above, there’s another portal which is hard to get the timings right on, but it’s easy once you get it down.

Decoration

What can I say? The decoration is pretty much non-existent. It’s no surprise, as this level is one of the oldest, but there is a bit…

The colours change a few times, but that happens in every level, so it’s not very exciting.

Music

Waterflame composed this track, and it’s a beauty. The part which plays during the level is quite good, but my favourite aspect of it is after the level-focused part ends, a voice comes on and says “I have one question which I hope to answer. Can a man control his destiny if he changed the course of things to come?” Then, the tune gets better 😀 (I may have misheard the lyrics. Apologies if I have :3)

At 4 minutes and 36 seconds long, this is quite a long piece of music, but it’s worth listening all the way through 🙂 While it may be basic, that’s one of the things I love about it.

Conclusion

Time Machine is quite a step-up from Jumper, so if it takes you a while to beat it, don’t worry. It took me 200 attempts to beat it when I first started 😀 Now I can do it in one try; soon that’ll be you too 😉

Despite the awkward transitions, triple spikes, and narrow flying paths, the rest of the level shouldn’t be too much of a challenge, but don’t give up :3

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog 🙂 Leave your opinions and suggestions in the comments, and I will do my best to take them into account in the next installment in this series, where I will be analysing Cycles 🙂

Thank you all so very much,
